Music Collection

2019-03-01 02:55:39

The Music Collection was opened in Fehérhajó utca in 1964, as the first fully public music library in Budapest.
The Music Collection is a special library for classical music, with an objective to provide professional and amateur musicians with special literature, as well as to promote music education and research, and to support music culture in general.

In 1998, the Music Collection moved to the Pálffy Palace (adjoining the Central Library building). Designed by Miklós Ybl, the palace was built in ecclectic style. The building harmonically blends the characteristics of romanticism with the French rococo and the Italian renaissance style.
The palace houses the Music Collection on two floors, on an area of nearly 1,300 square metres.

The registration and circulation desks, as well as the Reading room and the Periodicals Reading room can be found on the GROUND FLOOR.

On the FIRST FLOOR, you may browse among books for borrowing, small-sized orchestral scores, video-recordings and CDs on the open shelves. The audio collection (opened in 1999 and installed with Japanese state subsidy) is also located here.
