The Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library, established in 1904, provides the services of the public library network for the inhabitants in Budapest.
Ervin Szabó (Szlanica, 22 August, 1877. - Budapest, 30 September, 1918.) sociologist, library director, bibliographer. He made an effort to develop the public library system of the Hungarian capital.
The establishment of the Metropolitan Library was accepted by the City's General Assembly in 1903. It was set up by the combination of two special libraries ensuring the financial and staff conditions recorded in the Rules for Operation.
